Cafe Muse

418 S. Washington Ave.
Royal Oak, MI

Name: Grilled 3 Cheese
Ingredients: Fontina, Mozzarella and Havarti with tomato, basil and honey
Sides: Potato chips or the salad of the day (which is usually great-sometimes a fruit salad, potato salad or a mix of veggies.)
Price: $7.95
Thoughts: The buttery, crusty bread is very hot (ooh!) and the honey adds a touch of sweetness.  Make sure you have a napkin handy for your fingers.  There really is no bite from the cheese, it's just buttery, creamy, gooey and delicate with a satisfying crunch (am I writing about grilled cheese or a candy bar?!)  This is definitely one of my favorite grilled cheeses to date.  What I love about it most is the consistency, I've gone to Cafe Muse quite a bit and the grilled cheese is right every time.  I hate when sometimes a meal is great and the next time it is not so good, soggy or undercooked.  This sandwich is perfect for a light yet gourmet feeling lunch, the honey is a pleasant surprise and the fresh basil is so summery.
Score: ◥◥◥◥ 1/2
*Bonus: This grilled cheese was featured as one of the best sandwiches in America on The Oprah Winfrey Show!  Oprah's friend Gayle went across the U.S. in search for the best and this was one!
The photo above was taken over Christmas, hence the winter coat.  However, I did my review and the following photos in the summer when you can enjoy the cute outdoor patio and people watch.  This especially pairs nicely with the raspberry lemonade (complete with fresh floating raspberries.)  I also recommend Cafe Muse for brunch.  The menu is so good, it includes vanilla bean waffles, delicious omelettes, cappucinos and rich desserts.  This place was not only one of the few newer (among many) restaurants to open and last through tough economic times in downtown Royal Oak, but they have done so well that they had to move to expand their size!
